Photo Gallery - India

The photo gallery section allows us to share photos of David in Edmonton, Ottawa and other places he travels to as Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific). This section will be updated frequently so please check back often.

From January 5th to 14th, David  visited Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mysore and Chandigarh, India.  He was accompanied by Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Rouge River, Derek Lee, Policy Advisor Michael Wodzicki and his Senior Constituency Assistant, Sukhbir Lalli.

They visited 6 cities in 9 days, including the location of Canada's forthcoming Consulate in Chandigarh, Punjab. The primary purposes of the visit were to promote trade and investment and to demonstrate Canada's commitment to sustaining & enriching our human links with India.

In Hyderabad, David participated in the Confederation of India Industries 3rd Partnership Summit in Hyderabad.  He delivered remarks to over 150 individuals interested in doing business in Canada at a partnership luncheon held  on January 7th, 2003.

He also spoke at a plenary session entitled, "China-India: Where Does Foreign Investment Go?". David met with a number of Indian companies with interests in Canada, including Satyam and Infosys (both of which have chosen Canada as home for their global development centres), as well as Kshema Technologies. Areas where Canada is looking to increase trade and investment with India include information communications technology (ICT), natural resources, biotechnology, agriculture and nanotechnology.

David also joined more than 300 experts from India and abroad at the 3rd Asia-Pacific and 19th Indian Association for Canadian Studies (IACS) International Conference in Mysore.  With over 1000 members, the Association is the largest of its kind in the world.   In his keynote address, Minister Kilgour spoke to the conference's theme "Globalisation & Consumerism: Canadian Studies in the Asia-Pacific context".
