To All Constituents And Friends Dear Resident of Edmonton-Mill Woods-Beaumont, After 26 years, this is the final letter I’ll be sending as a Member of Parliament. Thank you for being the best constituents any MP of any party – or one of no party – could wish for. Through a variety of means, many of you never hesitated to let me know your views. And when I goofed, you were patient. It has been an enormous honour to have represented you for so long and I've enjoyed almost every moment of it. Thank you. As a homeowner near 34th Avenue in Mill Woods, let me also say that our community is as fascinating and supportive as any I've seen anywhere in the world. On the upcoming election, I encourage you to consider Canada’s future and the kind of country you want. On reflection, I don't think I should attempt to persuade residents how to vote. However, I cannot stress enough how important it is that you vote on January 23rd. At our last two town hall meetings you had the opportunity to hear the nominated candidate and those vying for nomination in parties still in the process of choosing their candidate. I urge you to learn what each of the candidates believes and choose the one who best represents your views. Because of the number of persons using my website as a reference, currently at about 640 visits a day, I have arranged to continue it: www.david-kilgour.com. If you have a concern, your constituency office will remain open in the Tawa Centre, 216, 3017 - 66 Street until election day. If you're wondering where I'll be on election day, after voting in the advance poll, I plan to be in Africa participating at meetings on governance issues. Thereafter, I hope to climb Mount Kenya and Mount Kilimanjaro. Permit me to wish all of you a meaningful, spiritual holiday if you are a member of one of the various faiths for which this season is holy. Warmest regards,David Kilgour
PS: If you have ongoing casework at the Edmonton office, I'd like to advise you on the disposition of files. As a standard practice, no original documents are kept at my office and copies would have been provided to you of all correspondence sent and received on your behalf. Therefore, all of the confidential file material at my office will be destroyed during the week prior to election day as the office must be permanently closed. Following the election, you should contact your new Member of Parliament and can then provide them with any documentation you think may be helpful.
