China stepping up attacks on innocent Uyghur People

International Human Rights Day

Press Release issued by the

Uyghur Canadian Association

December 10, 2005

Today is International Human Rights Day and the 57th anniversary of

the adoption by the United Nations of the Universal Declaration of

Human Rights.

Uyghur Canadian Association has marked the 57th anniversary of

International Human Rights Day by protesting systematic and brutal

repression of Chinese government for Uyghurs in East Turkistan in

front of Chinese Consulate General in Toronto..

"We continue to be the voice of Uyghurs in East Turkistan till their

voice is heard and taking this opportunity strongly condemn the Human

Rights application of Chinese government to our people back home" said

Mohamed Tohti, the President of Uyghur Canadian Association (UCA).

Recent Reports of Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and other

Non-Profit Human Rights Organizations around the world have confirmed

that since September 11, 2001, hijacking the war on terror, China has

stepped up the prosecution of Uyghurs for their peaceful demand of

basic Cultural, Political and Religious Rights.

Recent UN special Rapportuer on Torture,  Dr. Manfred Novak has

revealed in his recent Statement that "Torture in China is widespread"

for the ethnic group of Uyghurs and Tibetans.

Intensified Strike Hard Campaign in East Turkistan by the Chinese

government has resulted mass arrest of innocent Uyghurs without proper

distinction of peaceful expression of their basic Rights.

As we celebrating the 57th Anniversary of International Human Rights

Day and Universal declaration of Human Rights, more and more people in

East Turkistan have become hopeless, desperate and devastated due to

targeted policy of Chinese government.

Uyghur Canadian Association is calling on Canadian Government and

public to be aware of Uyghur Human Rights Problem in China and use its

ultimate pressure to stop it.

Marking the 57th anniversary of this great day, UCA has joined

together with more than 46 organizations in Canada and endorsed the

Initiative of Amnesty International for its open letter to the Prime

Minister of Canada to encourage our government to make an important

contribution to ending the horror of torture by adhering to the

Optional Protocol to the United Nations Convention against Torture and

other forms of Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment

(Optional Protocol or OPCAT). This letter has been signed by more than 46 organizations including UCA.
