Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma) 26th

AAPP has received information that at 1215 (Burma Standard time) today that monks are being attacked and beaten near to Sule pagoda, Rangoon. Information has also been released and confirmed that in Bahan 3 area, members of the Swan Ah Shin organization are attacking monks and some have been injured. 1000 monks from Nyaung Done monastery have left and just started to march. Information has come in at 1240 (BST) that eight rounds of gunshots have been heard at East Shwedagon, followed by two louder shots. One monk was injured in a nearby monastery and there are many violent confrontations taking place around Schwedagon.

Also over 50 monks were arrested in Myintkyina, Bhamaw, Moehnyin township (Kachin state).

AAPP can confirm the arrests last night (25th September) of:

  • Khin Mar Lar (Ko Nyein Thit’s wife)
  • Paik Ko in Pakkhoku
  • Min Thu in Mogok
  • Pwint Phyu (F) in Mogok
  • Myint Myint San (F) NLD member
  • Tin Aung, Member of Parliament
  • Khin Maung Thaung, Division organizer for NLD
  • Myo Naing, Member of Parliament.
  • Myint Myint Aye (NLD Secretary-Meikhtila)
  • Tin Ko (NLD youth- Meikhtila)

Also arrested on 24th September were:

  • Pyait Phyo Hlaing
  • Lin Lin
  • Ko Phone
  • Ko Phyo
  • Ko Thiha
  • Ko Kyaw Soe (irrawaddy) + 9

AAPP is aware of information regarding Daw Aung San Suu Kyi being moved from her home to Insein prison last night, but currently this information cannot be confirmed.
